About Harwood Andrews Ballarat

Harwood Andrews opened its office in Ballarat in October 2011, and in July 2013 merged with Cuthberts Barristers & Solicitors. We are Victoria’s largest legal firm with a head office based in a regional centre. This means we are committed to regional development and understand the needs and challenges faced by rural and regional businesses and the importance of providing services that strengthen communities and support sustainable growth. We work closely with businesses and individuals providing positive, practical, comprehensive advice and commercial solutions.

Our lawyers acknowledged leaders in all legal aspects of business. Our diverse team of over 170 talented individuals includes principals, special counsel, lawyers, corporate service managers and support personnel. We have 12 individual Law Institute of Victoria accredited specialists who hold specialisations in 9 distinct legal areas.

As a firm we adopt a socially responsible attitude and are an active and respected part of the communities in which we operate. We give advice to many Australian charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Agreed pricing

Historically, legal services have been charged on the basis of an hourly rate or a scale of costs. Whilst we have always had lower hourly rates than the larger law firms we realise the shortcomings for both ourselves and you in using these, which can often reward inefficiency and fail to provide certainty to you about the legal fees being incurred. We also understand that these methods of charging for legal services have not always captured the commercial value of the solutions provided to our clients.

While we understand that some of our clients still prefer to maintain more traditional means of time based costing, and acknowledge that there are some matters in which it will not be possible for an agreed price to be determined, we believe that agreeing on a price prior to work commencing provides transparency and clarity.
